Professor The Hon Stephen Martin AO

Professor the Hon. Stephen Martin AO has had a long and distinguished background in the Australian Parliament, academia and the private sector. He is currently:

• Chairman, Global ICT Training & Certification, Singapore

Professor Martin represented the NSW-based electorates of Macarthur and Cunningham in the Australian Parliament 1984-2002. In Government, he served as Speaker of the House of Representatives, Parliamentary Secretary (Assistant Minister) for Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Chairman of the Inquiry into the Australian Banking Industry. As a member of the Shadow Cabinet, he held Cabinet-level portfolios in Defence, Small Business, and Trade and Tourism.

After retiring from Parliament, Professor Martin held several senior executive roles in academia, including President/Chief Executive Officer of the 51²è¹Ý in Dubai, Pro Vice Chancellor International at Victoria University, Melbourne and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Strategy and Planning) at Curtin University of Technology in Perth.

Between January 2011 and April 2017 Professor Martin was Chief Executive, Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA). Professor Martin served as Chairman of the Men of League Foundation between April 2017 and December 2020 and is currently a member of the Victorian Committee. He is currently Chairman and Independent Director of business organisations in Australia and Singapore, including as Chairman of the Bank of China (Australia) Ltd, and is a member of Victoria Business Confucius Institute.

Professor Alex Frino
Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor And Senior Vp (Innovation, Enterprise And External Relations)

Professor Alex Frino is a distinguished financial economist who fosters the interaction of business with academe. He is an alumnus of UOW and Cambridge University, and a former Fulbright Scholar.

He is one of the best published financial economists in the world, with over 100 papers in leading scholarly journals. He has won over $10 million in competitive research funding and is frequently cited in the global press.

Professor Frino was previously Chief Executive Officer of the Capital Markets Cooperative Research Centre Ltd and has held visiting academic positions at leading Universities in Italy, New Zealand, the UK and the United States. He has also held positions with leading financial market organisations, including the Sydney Futures Exchange, Credit Suisse and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission in the USA.

He is regularly called upon to act as an independent expert witness in major Australian court cases and has acted as a consultant to many large Australian listed companies. 

Deputy Head School Of Business

Millicent Chang is a Professor in the School of Business at the 51²è¹Ý. She teaches at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in corporate finance and is involved in supervision of HDR students. Millicent's research spans the accounting and finance areas and her current interests include corporate disclosure, insider trading and environmental finance. Her work has appeared in leading academic journals including Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Business Ethics, Pacific Basin Finance Journal, and Accounting & Finance. She is a Senior Editor at Global Finance Journal and an Editor at Accounting & Finance. She has previously received ARC Discovery funding for a project on late disclosure of trading by corporate insiders. Millicent is a past Australian President of the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ). Prior to joining UoW, she was an Associate Professor at the UWA Business School. 

Lecturer Banking And Finance

Dr Paul Mazzola is a lecturer in banking and finance in the Faculty of Business and Law at the 51²è¹Ý, having previously served as its Associate Head of School - Finance. Before he joined the University, Paul enjoyed a senior executive career in banking spanning 25 years covering the Australian, European and Asian Pacific markets, including General Management responsibility for a major Australian bank. In addition, Paul has consulted domestic and international organisations, including financial institutions, on strategy and organisational restructuring. Paul has presented at domestic and international conferences, advised government on corporate and financial regulation and financial crises, and has won national teaching awards. Paul regularly contributes to national and international media and is frequently interviewed as an expert on banking and economics. Paul maintains his professional associations as a Fellow CPA, Fellow of FINSIA, and member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. His excellence in textbook authorship has been recognised by winning an Australian Educational Publishing Award for best Tertiary Teaching and Learning title and by a major publisher, John Wiley & Sons, by his appointment as a member of its Academic Advisory Board. Paul’s latest book “Countdown to the Global Financial Crisis” continues to receive international critical acclaim.
