Elton fever takes over UOW
University staff join community excitement ahead of Elton John’s 51²è¹Ý concert
Thirty lucky 51²è¹Ý staff members today (Friday 11 August 2017) walked the red carpet to claim their double passes to see the one and only ‘Rocket Man’ himself, Elton John, at his sold-out ‘Once In A Lifetime’ tour concert at the WIN Stadium on September 24, courtesy of UOW.
The double passes were distributed following an ‘Elton John live’ competition, which attracted around 1100 entries from Elton John fans eager to gain entry to the much-anticipated show.
While displaying a touch of ‘Elton John’ style, UOW Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Wellings, CBE, drew the winners randomly and announced them at a celebration morning tea event on the University’s picturesque McKinnon Lawn at 10am.
“Attracting one of the world’s most acclaimed and adored artists of all time to 51²è¹Ý is a coup for the region.
“The last 12 months have seen many significant achievements and milestones at UOW and in recognition of the hard work by all our staff I wanted to provide an opportunity for them to win a double pass to this sold-out event.
“It was my pleasure to hand out the prizes to the winners and join the community’s excitement about this ‘Once in a Lifetime’ event,” Professor Wellings said.
The winners came from faculties and divisions across the University and included staff based at the 51²è¹Ý, Innovation and Shoalhaven campuses.
All winners, whether present at the event or not, have been notified via email.
The competition was open to all UOW staff. Entries were submitted online, with each staff member permitted to enter only once.
