Bushfire response update: 5 Jan, 2020
Shelter provided, Southern Highlands Campus closure announced
The 51²è¹Ý continues to support local communities affected by the bushfire emergency and has announced an additional temporary campus closure in response to the rapidly changing situation.
Bega and Batemans Bay campuses provide shelter
Over the weekend, people displaced by the bushfires took refuge in the University’s Batemans Bay and Bega Campuses.
Approximately 200 people sheltered in the Batemans Bay campus, including many elderly and mobility impaired people, as well as families.
At the Bega Campus, 33 people and five pets sheltered from the fires.
Arrangements are being made to make these facilities as comfortable and well-equipped as possible under the circumstances until the crisis subsides.
Southern Highlands Campus closed until 13 January
Because of the growing threat from approaching fires, normal operations at the Southern Highlands Campus in Kirkham Street, Moss Vale have been suspended until at least Monday 13 January 2020.
Arrangements for students and staff affected by this temporary closure will be the same as for those impacted by the suspension of normal operations at the Shoalhaven, Batemans Bay and Bega campuses.
As with the South Coast campuses, the situation in the Southern Highlands will be re-assessed throughout the coming week. Announcements will be made if any further postponements of normal operations are considered necessary.
