School of Law ranked among the top 100 globally

School of Law ranked among the top 100 globally

Strong results also for Education, Business and Economics, and Social Sciences in THE World University Rankings by subject

The 51 (UOW) has again been named among the world’s the top 100 universities for Law, and in the top 200 for Education, in the 2022 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by subject.

In Law, UOW ranked 83rd in the world and 8th in Australia. UOW has consistently ranked among the top 100 universities for Law every year for the past five years since THE introduced the Rankings by subject in 2018.

In Education, UOW ranked in the 176-200 band globally.

UOW also performed strongly in Business and Economics, placing in the 201-250 band; and in Social Sciences where it ranked in the 251-300 band.

The World University Rankings by subject tables are based on range of 13 performance indicators grouped into five categories: teaching; research (volume, income and reputation); citations (research influence); international outlook (staff, students and research); and industry income (innovation).

Executive Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law Professor Colin Picker welcomed the release of the World University Rankings by subject for Law and Business and Economics.

“This result reflects the Faculty’s commitment to world-class teaching, to innovative and impactful research and to industry engagement,” Professor Picker said.

“Our teaching is designed to give students learning experiences that focus on real-world applications. We aim to produce graduates who are independent thinkers and creative problem-solvers with the skills, knowledge, and experience to succeed in their careers.

“In research we have a robust track record for innovative, rigorous and original research across all our disciplines – Law, Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management and Marketing – and at our world-class research institutes, Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS) and Australian Health Services Research Institute (AHSRI).

Executive Dean of the Faculty of the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities Professor Sue Bennett thanked Faculty staff for their hard work and commitment.

"Despite the many challenges of the past 12 months, Faculty staff have maintained their focus on our core objectives. 

"In our teaching we empower individuals with creative problem-solving, analytical thinking, and communication skills and practical expertise.

"Our research addresses real world Issues with the aim of transforming lives and providing practical solutions to social Issues."

In the overall THE World University Rankings for 2022 released on September 2, UOW ranked 221 in the world (up 10 places from last year). UOW ranked 6th in the world in the THE Impact Rankings this year (up from 31 in the world last year); and jumped three places to rank 23rd in the world In the THE Young Universities Ranking.
