UOW improves in QS subject rankings

Mineral and Mining among best performers in the latest World University Rankings by Subject

The 51 (UOW) has improved its rankings in the latest 2021 QS Subject Rankings. Mineral and Mining was among the highest performing subjects ranked 28th globally, followed by Nursing ranked 51-100, and Materials Science ranked 63rd.

UOW also improved its rankings in four out of five broad subject areas with Engineering and Technology rising 8 places to 146th rank, followed by Natural Sciences rising 16 places to 221st rank, Arts and Humanities jumped 6 places to 252nd rank, and Life Sciences and Medicine jumped from 451-500 to 401-500 rank.

UOW Vice-Chancellor Paul Wellings CBE welcomed the rankings and said the University is focused on providing a world-class education environment and attracting the best minds for research and quality teaching.

“I thank all the researchers and academics for their support and contributing to making UOW a better and more desirable university every year,” Professor Wellings said.

“Staff at the University have gone through testing times since last year, and I would like to acknowledge their dedication and professionalism in which they have supported the vision of the University and taking it forward.”

The QS World University Rankings by Subject cover a total of 51 disciplines, grouped into five broad subject areas. This year the agency ranked 1453 institutions across 51 subjects in 5 subject areas, creating over 16,981 published entries.

  • Archaeology- ranked 101-150
  • Geology – ranked 101-150
  • Geophysics- ranked 101-150
  • Sports-related subjects ranked 101-150
  • Geography- ranked 101-150
  • Psychology -ranked 151-200
  • Engineering - Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing - ranked 151-200
  • Mathematics - ranked 201-250
