UOW congratulates Ange Postecoglou on appointment as Tottenham Hotspur manager

Mr Postecoglou becomes first Aussie to manage a UK Premier League Club

The 51²è¹Ý (UOW) extends its warmest congratulations to Ange Postecoglou on his appointment as the new manager of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

This prestigious role marks a significant milestone in Mr Postecoglou's exceptional coaching career and serves as a source of great pride for Australia and the University, which is in partnership with the club through the UOW Tottenham Hotspur Global Football Program.

UOW Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Innovation, Enterprise and External Relations) Professor Alex Frino welcomed the appointment.

“We are delighted that Tottenham Hotspur will be coached by Ange,” Professor Frino said.

“His outstanding career makes him the best man to coach the Premier League club, and we look forward to working closely with him through our UOW Tottenham Hotspur Global Football Program.

“This will create further exposure for this famous club in Australia and Asia and grow the international Spurs fanbase. Tottenham's growing engagement in Australia will benefit our fantastic partnership with the club.”

UOW Tottenham Hotspur Global Football Program Head Coach Matheus Scapin also congratulated Mr Postecoglou on his appointment, which he said had put Australian football on the world map.

“It’s huge news that Ange is the first Aussie to coach a Premier League club. He has an impressive career and has been highly successful with numerous titles under his name,” Mr Scapin said.

“It will put Australia on the world map of the Premier League, and it opens doors for Australian coaches and players to play in Europe and other countries as well.

“The Tottenham Hotspur Program at UOW remains dedicated to promoting the sport in the Illawarra and across New South Wales and providing world-class training facilities for students.”

UOW Dean of Sport Professor Marc in het Panhuis said: “Sport is a great enabler and can offer great career prospects. We are delighted to have an Australian connection in our partnership with Tottenham Spurs. This will demonstrate that are pathways from player to coach to the students in our Global Sports Program.”
